The landscape waste collection program runs from April 1st to November 30th. There is an additional cost for this optional program. If you wish to have this service, call our Customer Service Center at 847-366-8582.
Please note: If you use cans for your landscape waste instead of the biodegradable Kraft paper bags, please mark (paint) the cans containing landscape waste with large red X’s. This will help identify the landscape waste to the drivers so your pickup is not inadvertently missed. Do not put landscape waste in plastic bags.

Bundled brush is included with the optional yard waste program. Please be sure all brush is bundled and tied with biodegradable twine or string in distinct piles that are no longer than 4 feet in length, 2 feet in diameter and weighing no more than 45 pounds with no individual branch being greater than 3” in diameter. CHRISTMAS TREES Christmas Trees will be collected the first two weeks of January at no additional charge from all residential households. All decorations, stands, etc., must be removed from trees in order to be collected. Do not place trees in plastic bags. Trees in plastic bags will not be collected.

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) schedules one-day Household Chemical Waste collection events from spring through fall at various locations throughout Lake County to help residents dispose of their chemical wastes safely and conveniently. These events are free and are open to Illinois residents only. A variety of common household materials can be brought to an HCW collection day, including: oil based paints, used motor oil, solvents, paint remover, antifreeze, aerosol products, metal polishes, insecticides, old gasoline, hobby chemicals, household batteries, and mercury (including thermometers and thermostats). Business, institutional and commercial wastes, explosives (such as fireworks and ammunition), propane tanks, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers, agricultural chemicals, medical wastes, and latex paint will not be accepted at any of the agency’s HCW events. Tires and lead acid batteries (auto and boat batteries) are also not accepted at these collections. These items can be recycled at any retail outlet that sells them. To help residents dispose of latex paint, SWALCO provides bags of crushed corn cobs at various locations around Lake County. Crushed corn cobs are very absorbent, and can dry out a can of paint in as little as 30 minutes. After equal parts of paint and crushed corn cobs are mixed together and allowed to dry, the cans of paint can be disposed of with the rest of the resident’s trash. SWALCO also sponsors electronics collection events where outdated, broken or unwanted household electronics are collected. Residents can call SWALCO at 847-336-9340 or check the website at for further information.

We look forward to continuing to service the Village of Mettawa.  If you would like more information about this program, contact our Customer Service Center at 847-366-8582. You can also visit us at
Thank you! Lakes Disposal

Rather than having to place your containers at the curb, residents can place their containers outside of their dwelling at another location point and our drivers will come up to this point and collect the trash and recycle.

If a resident requires additional trash or recycle containers, they are available. These are available in 64-gallon and 96-gallon sizes.

A.  Subscription - Residents may elect to pay an annual fee for the collection of up to five approved containers weekly throughout the landscape waste season. Subscription fee must be paid in full upon signing up. Please also ask about the yard waste container Lakes Disposal can provide for your use.

B. By-the-Bag - Residents may utilize an "on-call" service if you wish to only have yard waste collected occasionally, rather than all season. Charges are per bag or bundle. Please call our Customer Service Center to schedule a collection.

Containers from 1.5 yards up to 8 yards are available for all residents of Mettawa. In addition to these, Lakes Disposal offers large roll-off dumpsters for construction, a clean-out, yard waste or horse manure. Please call our Customer Service Center at 847-366-8582 for rates.
